2021

7 December

Commercial Collaboration Agreement (CCA) SMJ Sdn Bhd was established as the state-owned oil and gas company pursuant to the CCA between Sabah state government and PETRONAS. The CCA aims to enhance the collaboration between the two parties in developing the oil and gas industry in Sabah. The Sabah state government is expected to benefit from a higher share of oil and gas revenues, along with greater participation and influence over oil and gas activities. 

2023

9 January

Heads of Agreement (HOA) for the acquisition of 25% equity interest in PETRONAS Chemicals Fertiliser Sabah Sdn Bhd (PCFSSB) PCFSSB operates an integrated ammonia and urea production complex in Sipitang, Sabah. It is the largest single train ammonia and urea plant in Southeast Asia. It is approximately 150 km south of Kota Kinabalu and 20 km south of Sipitang.

15 February

Letter of Understanding (LoU) signed to give SMJ the back-in option arrangement on the Block SB409 Production Sharing Contract (PSC) This LOU gives SMJ the option to participate upon completion of work commitment or commercial discovery, whichever earlier in SB409, situated offshore southwest Sabah covering 14,556sq km of area. This eliminates exploration investment risk.

Heads of agreement (HOA) signed with Petronas for the potential acquisition of 50% participating interest in Samarang PSC Samarang PSC which is located approximately 50 km off the coast of Sabah, has production of about 36,000 barrels of oil and gas equivalent per day.

4 April

Joint Operating Agreement (JOA) signed to formalized the acquisition of 50% participation interest in the Samarang PSC

25 April

Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) signed to acquire 25% equity interest in PETRONAS Chemicals Fertiliser Sabah Sdn Bhd (PCFSSB)

30 June

Sabah sold its first crude oil cargo to its crude oil buyer, Shell International Eastern Trading Company (SIETCO)

11 August

RAM Ratings assigned AAA rating to SMJ Energy's Sukuk Wakalah Programme which is a Multi-Currency Islamic Medium Term Notes of up to RM10 billion

16 August

SMJ Prices its first RM900 million Sukuk Wakalah

25 October

SMJ acquired Sabah International Petroleum SIP has three core assets: - a 10% equity interest in Petronas LNG9 Sdn Bhd (LNG Train-9 project), which operates an LNG plant within the Bintulu LNG complex - a floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel that is leased to Petronas Carigali Ketapang II Ltd - a floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel that is leased to Carigali-PTTEPI Operating Co Sdn Bhd
